SYMPOSIUM Presenters

PAT RICALDE, DDS, MD, FACS

Dr. Ricalde is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, specializing in maxillofacial reconstruction. In addition to Board Certification, she is a Fellowship Certified Pediatric Craniofacial Surgeon with specialty interest in congenital anomalies and special needs. Dr. Ricalde is the author of numerous publications, and lectures both nationally and internationally on the subject of pediatric craniofacial anomalies. She is also the Director of the Fellowship for Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery at the Florida Craniofacial Institute, and the Director of the Tampa Bay Cleft and Craniofacial Center.

VICTORIA PALERMO, MD, DDS

Dr. Palermo completed dental and medical school at the State University of New York at Buffalo. She completed her residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is a Fellowship Certified Surgeon. Dr. Palermo is also passionate about providing medical care to underserved populations and has participated in medical, dental and surgical missions to the Appalachian region of the US, Mexico and Vietnam.

MONICA HANNA, DMD

Dr. Hanna is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at the Florida Craniofacial Institute. She completed her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at NYC Health + Hospitals/ Woodhull in affiliation with NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Hanna has received extensive training in dentoalveolar surgery, dental implantology, facial trauma, maxillofacial pathology, orthognathic surgery, TMJ surgery, as well as pediatric and adult office sedations. She is a current member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the American Dental Association.

ABHAY SHARMA, MD

Dr. Sharma is an assistant professor of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of South Florida. He completed his undergraduate degree in Neurobiology at the University of Pennsylvania and attended LSU Health Sciences Center Shreveport for medical school. Dr. Sharma trained at USF for his residency and proceeded to complete a hybrid sleep medicine/surgery fellowship at Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI. He is dual board certified in both Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and Sleep Medicine. His main clinical focus is treating snoring and obstructive sleep apnea with a focus on patients that have difficulty with CPAP therapy. His primary research interests include developing models to predict cardiovascular outcomes in obstructive sleep apnea patients and improving surgical outcomes in these patients.

KEYNOTE Speaker

JEFFREY C. POSNICK D.M.D., M.D., F.R.C.S. (C), F.A.C.S.

Dr. Posnick is a Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Minnesota. Educated in dentistry from Harvard University and medicine from Vanderbilt University, Dr. Posnick is a diplomat of both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Posnick has completed surgical training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University; the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania; and Vanderbilt Medical Center and University.He began surgical practice in 1986 in Toronto, Canada where he directed the craniofacial surgery program at the Hospital for Sick Children, which is affiliated with the University of Toronto. Working with private industry beginning in the 1980s, Dr. Posnick developed (with the Leibinger Company in Germany) and later (with the Stryker Corporation in the US) refined internal fixation systems and medical devices that continue to be used in craniomaxillofacial surgery worldwide.

Dr. Posnick continues to passionately advocate for the democratization of safe and comprehensive surgical reconstruction of facial deformities in children and young adults throughout the world.

In 2020, Dr. Posnick stepped back from his clinical practice with continued involvement in the education of students, residents in training, clinicians in practice and the general public. Through Posnick MD Consulting, he continues to provide advice and support to the healthcare industry and individual patients and their families as they navigate personal healthcare challenges. It is imperative to utilize a multidisciplinary approach to maximize outcomes in surgical CranioMaxillofacial deformities. The Craniofacial and Advanced Maxillofacial Care (CAMC) Symposium has be endorsed by Every Smile Has A Story, and is a registered provider of continuing education credits through the Florida Board of Dentistry.
