We have taken Delaney to the CCA Family Retreat for three years now. Delaney was diagnosed with Pfeiffer Syndrome at age two. She is now six years old, going on seven and entering the first grade at a local elementary school. Over the past four years, since Delaney’s formal diagnosis, we relied heavily on our specialists in the Tampa Bay area including Dr. Pat Ricalde of Florida Craniofacial Institute and members of the Baycare Craniofacial Team like Dr. Nancy Williams-Wallace. In addition to the expertise of local specialists, we, as parents, had many questions daily and relied heavily on the social community. We participate in several social groups and were recommended Children’s Craniofacial Association. We were overwhelmed by the support of the social network and CCA. When we took Delaney to her first CCA Family Retreat in Fort Lauderdale, Delaney was well-known among the CCA retreat attendees through our social interactions. CCA quickly became family to us. We were fortunate to attend two CCA retreats on the East Coast in 2016 and 2017 but when CCA’s retreat was in Salt Lake City, Utah this year, it became difficult to attend due to cost of travel, lodging, registration and additional expenses. It broke our hearts to imagine not attending after having two amazing retreats back to back. We were determined to be CCA retreat “lifers.”
